Who We Are
The Burn Prevention Network is a regional 501(c) 3 non-profit organization currently serving 22 counties throughout Eastern Pennsylvania and Warren County, New Jersey. Our mission is to provide burn prevention and fire safety education to and advocacy for those at greatest risk of burn injuries. We serve an average of nearly 500,000 people throughout the region each year, about 90% of whom are children. Consistent results are accomplished through both direct educational program intervention and through partnerships with schools, medical and health services, fire and emergency services and other community organizations with like missions. Our on-line activities and programs extend our reach to limitless organizations and children alike.
There are approximately 400,000 fire and burn injuries reported in the United States each year. Young children and persons with mobility impairments are the most frequent victims. Fires and burns remain the third leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among U.S. children ages 14 and under. In Pennsylvania, over 3,500 hospitalizations for children are attributed to fire and flame injury each year. Nearly 900 of these critical fire and burn injuries are treated annually at the Lehigh Valley Health Network Regional Burn Center.
Burn care professionals estimate that over 75% of all medically treated burn injuries could have been prevented by means of behavioral and environmental modification. The Burn Prevention Network has more than 30 years of experience and proven performance in the development and effective, efficient delivery of targeted fire safety education programs – to children, parents, seniors, teachers and even fire services personnel.
